I know ev‘ry idle word has its reward, To dishonor the sacred no true heart accords; Forgive me, dear God, if I’ve uttered a word That would not have been said by my Lord.

I know that if anger has prompted the tongue, If my wrath has enacted what love should have done, Some heart will be wounded that I should have won, Lord, forgive if I’ve injured a one.

There’s ought of example but Jesus for me, Help me ever, dear Father, His likeness to be; And help me to speak so that others may see, That the Savior is living in me.
