Verse 1: This life is filled with sorrow and troubles here below, We oft are made to wonder just why it should be so; In ev’ry tribulation this life must bring to view, O Lord, we need a friend like you.
Verse 2: O Lord, we know you traveled the road to Jericho, And helped a lonely pilgrim, the Bible tells us so; When earthly friends forsake us and all the world seems blue, O Lord, we need a friend like you.
Verse 3: They say that many trials will come to vex the soul, That clouds will often gather to dim for us the goal; In ev’ry sad condition to lead us safely thru, O Lord, we need a friend like you.
