guide for song worship leaders is a "Key/Time Index" for the "Hymns
for Worship" (Revised) hymn book and is sized in such a way as to
be placed inside of the hymn book. All song titles, and corresponding
song numbers, are sorted by "key signature". Also, by each
song title, the "rhythm" of that song (whether it be simple
or compound time) is indicated. The use of this guide helps to enhance
the song selection process and gives variety (in pitch and rhythm) in
the song worship service. R.J. Stevens believes that the song leader,
when selecting songs for a worship service, should not select songs "back-to-back" in
the same key and/or of the same time signature. There should be variety!
Other benefits are that it helps the leader to more quickly select the
songs and to keep a record of when songs are led in order to keep from
selecting the same songs over and over again.
